Las Vegas, Nevada, January 5, 2006 – To appeal to the vast point-and-shoot market, Samsung announced a new easy to use product line. The Samsung S-series will start out with three compact models: the Digimax S800, S600, and S500. The model numbers designate their pixel counts, as the flagship camera will have 8 megapixels and the others will have 6 and 5 megapixels respectively. All three digital cameras will have 2.4-inch LCD screens and 3x optical zoom lenses. The affordable S-series cameras will be available this month.

"The ‘S’ series cameras are perfect for the beginner through advanced photographer," said Stewart Henderson, National Marketing Manager at Samsung Opto-Electronics, in today’s press release. "Not only are these models offered at very attractive price points, but they include a host of advanced functions such as movie recording and special effects modes that allow users to get the most out of the digital imaging experience."

The Samsung Digimax S-series cameras have similar compact bodies and even more similar specifications. The most distinguishing feature is the amount of megapixels on the CCDs. The S800 will retail for $299, the S600 will retail for $229, and the S500 will retail for $179.

The straightforward digital cameras have seven scene modes: Landscape, Close-Up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, and Beach & Snow. The Digimax models each have a designated button for special effects such as Negative and Composite as well as Red, Green, Blue, Sepia, and Black & White.

Each of the 3 Samsung S-series digital cameras has a movie mode with digital image stabilization and built-in video editing functionality. Even better, the 3x optical zoom is available in both the still and movie shooting modes. Each camera has 16 MB of internal memory. The Samsung Digimax S-series could appeal to a wide audience with its simple format and low price point.
