November 10, 2006 – Fujifilm Japan announced on Wednesday the launch of the newest Z-series model, the FinePix Z5*fd*, which comes with face detection technology and a Blog mode. The 6.3 megapixel camera will become available in December in Japan and January 2007 in the UK.

Like its predecessor the Z3, the Z5*fd* shares the Real Photo Processor II technology. The new camera, however, totes a higher 6.3 megapixel count over the Z3’s 5.1 megapixel. Both share the 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch scratch-resistant LCD monitor, 1600 ISO sensitivity, and 14 scene modes. Like the previous camera, the Z5fd has the i-flash system and a Natural Light/With Flash mode for dual shots with and without flash.

The Fuji Z5*fd* adds Fuji’s face detection technology, first introduced this year. Like the FinePix F31*fd* and S6000*fd*, the face detection system automatically sets focus and exposure on up to ten faces in a scene.

The camera also adds the new Blog mode for the 'My Space generation,' according to the UK release. Similar to Casio’s eBay mode, the setting adjust image size for easier instant messaging and online posting for sites such as MySpace.com.

'The FinePix Z5*fd* is small enought ot fit easily into a pocket or the most minimalist of clutch bags,' stated the release. The Z5*fd* comes in three new colors, Respberry Red, Mocha Brown, and Silver.

The Fuji FinePix Z5*fd* has 26 MB of internal memory and is compatible with xD media cards.  For the underwater photographer, the Fuji Z5*fd* is compatible with the waterproof case WP-FXF30.
