Every COOLPIX camera is built around a genuine NIKKOR glass lens, the lens in the COOLPIX P7800 is no exception. It has an f/2 maximum aperture—pros call it a "fast" lens, you'll call it incredible. Create photos and videos with tack sharp subjects against beautifully blurred backgrounds, and shoot without a flash in situations you wouldn't think possible. It has a 7.1x wide-angle to telephoto zoom range—capture 180°/360° panoramas as easily as detailed close-ups. You even can get as close as 0.8-inches from your subject for exciting macro shots. And with lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR), you never have to worry about a little camera shake ruining a shot.
Superior low-light performance
High-performance CMOS image sensor lets you shoot without a flash
Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties—anywhere your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos and HD videos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX P7800 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.
Precise high resolution monitors
Dual Viewing systems—Vari-angle display and Electronic Eye-Level viewfinder
Shooting conditions vary, so the COOLPIX P7800 has two viewing systems: a large 3-inch 921,000-dot Vari-angle display that swings and swivels to provide easy viewing from almost any position, plus an electronic Eye-Level viewfinder for D-SLR-style shooting. Find exciting new perspectives by swiveling out the Vari-angle display and moving the camera around—raise it overhead or move it to ground-level for suprirsing new views. When conditions require, use the bright 921,000-dot Electronic Eye-Level viewfinder and frame exactly the shot you want.

I originally had my doubts for purchasing this camera. As I'm using it more and more, it's turning out to be a great camera. Having the f/2.0 lens capability produces amazing pictures in low light scenarios. Better than what I could get from my old P7100.
I use the EVF for 100% of my shots. Yes, the EVF does not show a lot of details or colors. Still, it works for me when I compose my shots and the results are beautiful pictures. It's much better than my P7100 EVF which only showed ~85% of what I was seeing. Since I was used to working with less EVF, having 100% limited capability is still a huge improvement for my needs. I use the EVF out of habit as my primary camera is my Nikon D600 DSLR. Also, I've learned to get clear shots while holding the camera close to my face versus looking at the LCD to take pictures. Just a personal preference.
I like the articulating LCD display. I like the ability to close the display by flipping it into the back of the camera to protect the LCD. When the display is closed, the EVF will turn on. When the display is open, the EVF will turn off. Nice touch! The articulating display is much better than the one on my old P7100 which could only be pulled out and moved up and down.
It didn't take long for me to go through the menu system on this camera. I do make setting changes: spot metering, center focus, etc. Simple to make changes. I mostly shoot in Aperture and Program mode.
I like having the front lens cap. I haven't had any issues with it falling off in my bag. It fits snug on my the lens. I like having the threads on the front lens, I find a need for a filter at a later time. Looking for a clear B+W 40.5mm filter. I believe this type of lens is a huge improvement over my P7100 as that lens closes behind the "lens flaps".
Instead of using the included Nikon neck strap, I've switched to using a wrist strap from OP/Tech. It's much easier and convenient for me to reach into my bag, grab the short strap and put it on my wrist and start taking pictures. Plus I don't have to worry about folding and putting away the long neck strap, especially if I'm using a small bag. The OP/Tech wrist straps come in different colors and also in different patterns. Not that expensive.
I can reuse the batteries from my P7100. I'm quite happy as it saves me some money from buying extra batteries.
I've been looking for a bag/case for my P7800 camera and flash. I haven't found anything that really stands out. For now, I just place my camera and flash in my bag and go.
One of the reasons why I have stayed with Nikon especially when purchasing point and shoot cameras is the capability of using the different Nikon flashes. I have never used the internal flash that comes with the camera. So having a hot shoe on the camera is a must for me. Yes, I did purchase the Nikon SB-300 compact flash. It was a "cute" impulse buy for me. The SB-300 and P7800 is a nice combination and complements each other rather well. It just feels right together. BTW, I've posted a review for the SB-300 along with several pictures in that gallery. Enjoy!
I have added a few pictures to this gallery (with the SB-300 attached and some macro flower shots). I will be updating my post as I gather more information about this camera and its use. Stay tuned!

07/15/14: I have found a really neat camera bag that can hold the P7800 camera and SB-300 flash. The Think Tank Mirrorless Mover 20 bag. There's plenty of room to also carry a smartphone, extra batteries, and a small wallet. The bag also has an attached rain cover. The front flap has a magnet. Under the front flap is a zippered area for the main compartment. There is also zippered area in the front of the bag (also under the flap). Nice not to have any velcro on this bag. :)
07/17/14: I've been shooting in Aperture mode along with the Macro feature on the camera. I like that I can get real close and shoot at f/2. Amazing results! Clear and bright pictures!
I've tried several times to upload my flower pictures and I still do not see them in the gallery. Will keep trying.
07/26/14: I've purchased the Nikon 3624 40.5mm NC filter for this camera. It screws into the front lens of this camera. Then included lens cap fits nicely over the filter. Does extend the front a bit and most filters will do that. For me, it's a piece of mind to protect the lens. I'll report back my findings/use with this new filter.
07/31/14: It's now my go-to camera. I take it everywhere I go. It doesn't replace my DSLR, but I like that I can keep it in my purse and be ready for my Kodak moments. I'm still using the battery on it's first charge and I have taken +250 pictures. Though I use the EVF to take the pictures, I do use the LCD to review them and also to look through the menu settings. Will report back on average battery usage.
09/06/14: With the first battery charge, I was able to take 320 pictures. The majority of the time I used the LCD was to review pictures and check my menu settings. Again, using the EVF for 90% of the time to take pictures. The other 10% was using the LCD to take difficult pictures. For example, I needed to take an overhead shot and was able to pull out the LCD and take a picture. That worked great.
The macro shots are outstanding. Love being able to take close ups at f/2.0.
09/20/14: I have swapped out the Nikon 3624 40.5mm NC filter for the B+W filter. I was getting a lot of lint and dust on the Nikon filter. I've been using the B+W filters on my professional lens and think they are they worth it. Hardly any dust or lint stays on the filter. Here's the name of the B+W filter: B+W 40.5mm Clear Filter with Multi-Resistant Coating (007M) - 66-1069039
I've ordered an interesting lens cap: Fotasy APP7800 Self-Retaining Auto Open Close Lens Cap for Nikon Coolpix P7700 P7800. I'll be adding another update when I receive and use this new accessory.
Stay tuned....

The P7800 is also very well made, it does not feel like a cheap, plastic point-n-shoot, it feels very sturdy, rugged feel as the Nikon DSLR body, so I have no problems taking it out on rough trips I take. It can take the abuse and has...
I bought this camera to replace my trusty, now non-repairable, Canon A650IS. This camera, in fact, does do what the A650 did, and does so do better than any of the current cameras that Canon offers - especially when it comes to close focusing. The only real negative of the Nikon as compared against the Canon A650 is that the Canon used standard AA batteries while the Nikon uses special rechargeable batteries. This means that I have to take spare batteries and possibly their charger into area where I may take multiple photos over an extended period of time. But since this Nikon functions and the Canon doesn't - I believe I can adjust to the differences.
