November 10, 2004 — The Nikon D70 just added another award to its resume. After winning the American Photo Editor’s Choice, the Hot 1 Award, a MacAddict Award and a DIWA Award, the digital SLR brought home the Popular Photography Magazine Camera of the Year for 2004. The magazine cited the Canon EOS Digital Rebel as beginning the digital SLR revolution in 2003 with its $899 price tag and 6.3 megapixels. Once the masses warmed up to digital SLRs, Nikon introduced the D70 with more sophistication and features and a decent price of $999.

The Nikon D70 boasts a shooting speed of 3 frames per second, has excellent color rendition, and is compatible with most Nikon lenses and accessories. This camera has a 1.8-inch backlit LCD with 118,000 pixels. Basic features like a wide shutter speed range and extensive white balance options and little features like the voice memo make this a unique camera suitable for a broad range of SLR users.

The D70 is the baby of the Nikon DSLR line, but still has maturity beyond its standing. The principal attraction to this award-winning camera is its appeal to both a professional and beginning photographers. This is recognized and valued by Popular Photography Magazine, deeming it this year’s "Camera of the Year."
