Selfie sticks might be the latest manifestation of the narcissistic craze, but an opposition is growing where you probably wouldn't expect it—at museums.
CBS New York reports that some of the city's famed museums are banning selfie sticks. So if you like taking selfies with famous pieces of art, you're going to have to rely on a disappointingly low-tech device: your arm.
New York City museums that have banned selfie sticks include the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and The Guggenheim, according to Skift.
Another museum may soon join them if the Metropolitan Museum of Art decides to ban the device. Skift asked the museum's Chief Digital Officer Sree Sreenivasan what his thoughts were on selfie sticks via Twitter.
Yet there is still one New York City museum that allows selfie sticks. CBS New York adds that the unwieldy contraptions are allowed at the American Museum of Natural History.
So if you love using selfie sticks, get your fill at the Met before it's too late! And if that fails, at least you can take a selfie with the dinosaurs at the Museum of Natural History.
