September 26, 2005 - Minox has announced the DMP-1, a portable multi-media device that includes a digital photo album to store and display photos on the move.

The DMP-1 is about one and a half centimeters thick and weighs just 62 grams, making it much smaller and lighter than most cameras. It comes with 512MB of built-in memory, plus an SD Card slot that can handle cards of up to 1GB, which Minox claims is enough for up to 30,000 photos.

The photos can be displayed on the 2-inch LCD screen, but there is no video output, which seems like an odd omission: this would have made it ideal for showing photos on a TV or making presentations. The company claims that the Lithium- Ion battery will last up to 9 hours and can be recharged either with an AC adapter or through the USB 2.0 port, which is also used for transferring pictures between the device and a PC. It isn’t clear, though, if the device can copy photos from the SD card to the built-in memory; a feature that can be useful on an extended trip when your memory card fills up. The DMP-1 can also act as an MP3 player. It is also capable of recording audio from a line input or from the built-in FM radio.
