*July 17, 2006 – *Canon Europe-owned photo sharing website www.photos.fotango.com closed on Friday, according to the Photo Marketing Association. The photo accounts will be transferred to www.photobox.co.uk.

The Fotango website is currently closed and displays announcements that users can transfer their Fotango account to PhotoBox for 30 free 5x7 prints. Users can also request a CD of copied files for a small, undisclosed fee. After September 1, the Fotango accounts will be terminated, states the website.

Launched in 2000, PhotoBox is the first online photo service in the UK and Ireland, states the company’s website. Canon Europe acquired the site in 2001, becoming a subsidiary of the corporate giant. Partnered with Fujifilm, the website produces one million prints everyday, states the website.
