With the COOLPIX S6800, Target Finding AF instantly and accurately determines your intended subject and focuses on it—not on just whatever is closest to the camera. Catch the shot you want on the first try. No more out of focus shots or the frustration of trying to get the camera to focus on the right thing.
Let the camera call the shots
18 Scene Modes and Scene Auto Selector for effortless photos and videos
Experienced photographers optimize their camera settings to match the situation. The COOLPIX S6800 does that work for you. With 18 Scene Modes, including Beach, Snow, Night Portrait, Sunset and more, it's easy to match the moment to a Scene Mode. You can even get creative and use Scene Modes to alter ordinary shots. Or, select Scene Auto Selector and let the camera choose the best mode for your situation.
Superior low-light performance
High-performance CMOS image sensor lets you shoot without a flash
Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties—anywhere your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX S6800 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.

The camera takes terrific photos in daylight and in low light. They are very sharp. The 12x zoom is great. I am an amateur photographer so I can't begin to describe all the possibilities that the camera is capable of, but if you are looking for a good point and shoot camera that is very portable and easy to use, I highly recommend this one.
We used both this camera and my phone and honestly - I would prefer using the phone. This camera was fine for outdoor use, but inside pictures weren't that great. Also, after first turning the camera on it was kind of slow taking the first picture - so getting in a quick shot was sometimes tricky.
Sharing pictures over WiFi was a neat addition. You basically turn the camera into a WiFi hub and then connect your phone to it. You then use an app on your phone to browse the pictures and download the ones you want. It was neat for transferring a few pics to upload to Facebook, but it was much easier to just plug the SD card into the computer when we got home to transfer the rest.
Overall - it was good purchase for our trip. I won't say it took any better pictures than my phone, but it was nice having a dedicated camera that was easier for (and cheaper) for strangers to use.
Overall this camera is OK..it's very slow between photos which is very frustrating and I have missed many shots as a result. The battery life is also just OK. Two features that you would think Nikon would have addressed. It was not too expensive and I will probably replace it next year.
